TL;DR (October 20, 2026): On the xAI API, Grok 4.7 costs $2.00 input, $0.50 cached input and $6.00 output per million tokens, rising to $4 / $1 / $12 for the whole request once the prompt reaches 200,000 tokens. Context is 500K. Web search and code execution cost $5 per 1,000 calls; there is no Batch discount on Grok 4.7, Priority costs 2x and the US regional endpoint 1.1x. Grok Bot has no separate price: it is included in The X Subscription from Premium ($30 a month) up, and draws on the same weekly pool as Grok and Cursor. The bundle starts at Plus for $8, which includes Grok, Grok API access and Cursor, but not Grok Bot.

xAI, which now signs its own pages as SpaceXSI, sells Grok two ways. The developer API is priced per token, like every other model API. Everything else, the Grok apps, the Grok Build coding agent, the Grok Bot agents and, since October 12, Cursor and X Premium, sits inside one subscription with a weekly usage pool. This page covers both as of October 2026, with the details that change the bill: long-context pricing, a cache discount that is smaller than at OpenAI or Anthropic, and what the $8 plan does not include.

From xAI's developer Pricing page, read October 20, 2026. Every model in the table doubles its rates at 200K prompt tokens or more.

Grok 4.7 was released on September 21, 2026 at the same price as Grok 4.6, and it is the model xAI recommends for code and chat. It is on the xAI API, in Cursor on all plans, as the default model in Grok Build, and on model gateways including OpenRouter, Vercel and Cloudflare. Reasoning effort goes from low to xhigh, with high as the default.

The details that change the bill

Long context reprices the whole request. The 200K threshold is not a marginal rate. Once a request's prompt reaches 200,000 tokens, all of its tokens, input, cached and output, are billed at the higher rate. An agent whose context grows past 200K doubles its per-step cost from that step on.

The cache discount is 75%, not 95%. Grok 4.7's cached input is $0.50 against $2.00 for fresh input. GPT-6.1 Sol's cached input is $0.10 against $2.00, and Claude Opus 5.5's cache read is $0.20 against $4.00, both 95% off. Agents resend their context on every step, so this one rate decides a lot. Take one step with 50,000 cached tokens, 10,000 fresh tokens and 2,000 output tokens:

ModelCached 50KFresh 10KOutput 2KPer step40-step job
GPT-6.1 Sol$0.005$0.020$0.020$0.045$1.80
Grok 4.7$0.025$0.020$0.012$0.057$2.28
Claude Opus 5.5$0.010$0.040$0.040$0.090$3.60

Grok 4.7 has the cheapest output of the three, but on a cache-heavy loop the cached reads eat most of that advantage. xAI's own advice for Grok 4.7 is to always set a prompt_cache_key on the Responses API (or the x-grok-conv-id header on Chat Completions): it routes a conversation to the same server, and without it "you often pay full input price on a cache-cold server". At $2.00 instead of $0.50, a missed cache quadruples the cost of those 50,000 tokens. Our prompt caching guide covers the general patterns.

Other multipliers:

  • Batch API: 20% off for grok-4.3 and the grok-4.20-0309 models only. Grok 4.7, 4.6 and 4.5 have no batch discount.
  • Priority Processing: 2x on all token types, billed only when the response confirms the priority tier.
  • US regional endpoint (us.api.x.ai): 1.1x, currently for grok-4.7 and grok-4.6 only. Grok 4.7 there is $2.20 / $0.55 / $6.60.
  • Grok 4.7 Fast: the same model on faster infrastructure at 2x the standard rates (1.5x on long context), only in Cursor and Grok Build, billed through your plan there, and not on the public API.
  • Usage guideline violations: a request blocked before generation on the Responses API costs $0.05.

Tool fees

Server-side toolPrice
Web Search (includes image search)$5 per 1,000 calls
X Search$5 per 1,000 posts, $10 per 1,000 profiles returned
Code Execution$5 per 1,000 calls
File attachment search$5 per 1,000 calls
Collections search (RAG)$2.50 per 1,000 calls
Image and X video understanding, remote MCP toolsTokens only

X Search is the one to watch: it is billed per item returned, not per call. Every post a search or thread fetch returns counts, including parent and quoted posts, so a query that returns a long thread bills every post in it. Tokens used by the agent to read results are billed on top.

API rate limits

xAI's limits are per model, in requests per second and tokens per minute, and they rise with a tier set by your cumulative API spend since January 1, 2026: Tier 0 at $0, Tier 1 at $50, Tier 2 at $250, Tier 3 at $1,000 and Tier 4 at $5,000. Tiers never go down. For grok-4.7, Tier 0 allows 150 requests per second and 50 million tokens per minute; Tier 4 allows 500 and 100 million. Cached tokens still count toward the token limit even though they are billed at the lower rate. Batch requests do not count toward rate limits.

Grok Bot pricing and The X Subscription

Since October 12, new self-serve customers buy Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium as one plan:

PlanMonthlyAnnualIncluded usageGrok BotX benefits
Free$0$0LimitedNoStandard X
Plus$8$80 ($7 a month)BaseNoCheckmark, creator tools, fewer ads
Premium$30$300 ($25 a month)4x PlusYesX Premium+ benefits
Super$100$1,000 ($84 a month)15x PlusYesX Premium+ benefits
Ultra$200$2,000 ($167 a month)50x PlusYesX Premium+ benefits

From xAI's The X Subscription pricing documentation and x.ai pricing page, read October 20, 2026. Prices before tax. Team seats: Premium $30, Super $100, Ultra $200; Plus is not available for teams.

So "Grok Bot pricing" is really the price of a Premium seat or higher. Grok Bot usage draws from the seat's shared weekly pool, the same pool that covers Grok models in the Grok apps and in Cursor. It is not a separate allowance. Super and Ultra give larger pools. The pool resets weekly, and xAI shows the next reset date in the usage view.

The weekly pool is where heavy Grok Bot users get caught. In an October r/AI_Agents post, a user described starting on a free plan and running out the same day, getting three more days from a $20 plan and two from a $60 plan, burning $20 of extra usage in 90 minutes, and reaching a $200 plan five days after starting. Pricing a week of their usage export at list API rates, they found long-running jobs made up 52% of the cost. That was on the older plans, before the switch, but the mechanism is the same: an always-on agent resends a growing context on every step, and the pool empties in proportion.

The catches in the bundle

  • Plus does not include Grok Bot. The $8 plan includes Grok chat, voice, Imagine and Build, Grok API access and Cursor. Grok Bot starts at Premium.
  • Third-party models in Cursor are not in the pool. Claude or GPT in Cursor are billed at API list price from the first request, paid from prepaid credit (top-ups). On team plans, xAI also adds a Cursor Token Rate of $0.25 per million tokens on third-party model requests; first-party models such as Grok and Composer are exempt.
  • Usage past the pool is prepaid. Extra first-party usage also draws on top-ups. Auto Top-up is off until you turn it on, and the monthly spending cap counts usage, not credit added, so usage can stop with money still in the balance.
  • Switching is permanent. Unifying Cursor, Grok and X accounts cannot be undone, even by Support. Existing Cursor, SuperGrok and X Premium plans continue if you do not switch, and switching cancels them with a prorated refund, except Cursor billed through the Apple App Store, which you must cancel with Apple.
  • The API meter is separate. x.ai lists "Grok API access" as a Plus feature, but its pricing FAQ says API usage is billed separately at standard model rates and does not draw from the plan's usage pool. Budget API work at the token rates above.

For how Cursor's own usage-based billing works outside this bundle, see Cursor usage-based pricing explained.

What changed in October 2026

  • October 12: The X Subscription launched, combining Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium in one plan from $8 to $200 a month.
  • October 14: Grok Voice 3.0 (grok-voice-3.0) became available at the same price as Grok Voice 2.0, $0.08 a minute for speech to speech, and grok-voice-latest moved to it. Grok Voice 2.0 is deprecated.
  • October 2: grok-voice-transcribe-1.0 reached end of life; requests route to grok-voice-transcribe-2.0 at the same price.
  • Coming November 2: grok-imagine-image-quality retires and its requests are served by grok-imagine-image-2.0 at low quality, at a lower per-image price.

Grok 4.7's API price has not changed since launch. When it does, or when any other model moves, it shows up in our AI price tracker and its change log.

If you build Grok into a product and charge your own customers for it, the API's per-request extras (tool calls, X Search items, long-context jumps) are what makes per-customer cost hard to reconstruct from a monthly invoice. UsageBox meters each usage event your product emits, so a customer's tool calls and tokens land on their own bill line.
